| Watch Dog
Watch Dog articles are devoted to exposing some of the false or misleading information that gets disseminated by the media. Watch Dog articles offer thoughtful criticism of material from prominent print magazines and other sources that I think is deceptive and confusing to consumers. False information appears in the form of statements which are factually incorrect, evidence presented as fact which is largely unsubstantiated, or conclusions that are simply illogical even though based on information that may be generally true. Misleading information includes anything intended to influence the reader to purchase equipment that is poorly designed or shoddily constructed. This includes well made products that are so overpriced that they represent poor value by any standard. Reviews that are negative in fact yet seem positive in tone may be misleading. Its a subjective call to refer to set-up advice as wrong but when advice is offered that I disagree with, Ill provide an alternative view in the Watch Dog articles. Sample Watch Dog articles are available below for free. New Watch Dogs may be posted here for a limited time only. A 46- page collection of Watch Dogs #2-18 is included with each order for Audio Perfectionist Journals #3-8. When you order Journals #3-8, this supplement will be delivered at no additional change by email to any address (which can accept attachments of 5Mbytes) anywhere in the world. | Postscript to Watch Dog #21
Following the posting on this web site of my Op Ed piece, which exposes the Wilson Maxx for the inaccurate and overpriced product that it is, I received a hateful email rant from John Giolas of Wilson Audio. For the amusement (and amazement) of readers of Audio Perfectionist Journal, the Giolas tirade appears in the "Hate Mail" link below, just as I received it, in its original raw and unedited form. The squeamish are forewarned that Giolas has spewed forth quite a vehement mouthful. Read on at your own risk! In particular, notice that Mr. Giolas has opted to attack me and my readers personally while his letter offers absolutely nothing to rebut my comments about the Wilson speakers. I also received a message from Michael Fremer which was more civil but he completely misinterpreted the purpose of a Watch Dog article so I chose to respond to many of his points. First the email message from Mr. Giolas, next the email message from Mr. Fremer and then my response to Fremer's message. Hate Mail: Postscript to Watch Dog #21, email messages from Giolas/Wilson and Fremer/Stereophile. 92k PDF file Postscript to Watch Dog #25 In the interest of allowing Stereophile readers to be exposed to an alternative viewpoint I offered to let John Atkinson publish the material that became Watch Dog #25. He rejected this opportunity.. |
